Siemens Solar Vancouver Site Receives ISO 9001 Certification
CAMARILLO, Calif., April 7, 1998 -- Siemens Solar Industries, the world's leading manufacturer of solar photovoltaic cells and modules, today announced its Vancouver, Wash., crystal-growing facility has received ISO 9001 certification from TÜV Rheinland of North America (Newtown, Conn.) Silicon crystals grown at the Vancouver site provide the base material for Siemens' solar cells and modules.
Covering product design and development, manufacturing, installation and field service, the comprehensive ISO 9001-level certification is granted in the United States to companies that establish and meet international quality system standards created by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). ISO standards are administered in the US by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the American Society for Quality (ASQ).
With this certification, Siemens Solar Industries has now achieved company-wide ISO 9001 compliance. According to Chet Farris, chief operating officer of Siemens Solar, the certification represents another major achievement in the company's commitment to quality. "We chose to implement the ISO 9001 quality system standard to help ensure that our customers worldwide receive the maximum benefit from our products," said Farris. "Our Camarillo plant became certified two years ago, and we wanted to assure that the Vancouver site was equally in line with our goal to achieve world-class performance."
Siemens Solar GmbH is a Munich-based joint venture of Siemens AG (51%) and Bayernwerk AG (49%). It belongs to the Siemens Solar Group whose world market share of almost 20% makes it the leading company in the photovoltaics industry.
